Due to expected inclement weather, the City of Forest Acres administrative and municipal court offices are closed for the day effective 1:30p, January 3, 2018.  Unless further notice is given, all city offices will reopen as usual on 8:30a on January 4, 2018.

Hurricane Irma- Updated September 10, 2017

Hurricane Irma is still projected to bring tropical storm force winds and heavy rains to the midlands. Based on these projections, City of Forest Acres administrative offices will be closed Monday, Septemeber 11.   The city intends to provide sanitation services Monday and Tuesday, but that will depend upon prevailing weather conditions at the time.

FAPD officer receives top honors at SC Criminal Justice Academy

Forest Acres Police Officer Heather M. Champagne was recently awarded the coveted J. P. Strom Award for having the highest academic average in her class at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Officer Champagne graduated on December 2, 2016 after completing 12 weeks of police training. She was a student in Basic Law Enforcement Class 656.

A native of New Hampshire, Champagne is a 2007 graduate of Norwich University, Vermont, with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, as well as the University of South Carolina in 2010 with an M.A.T. in Elementary Education.

Labor Day - Sanitation Schedule

The City of Forest Acres will recognize the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 5, 2016 and employees (including those in the Sanitation Department) will have the day off.

  • Monday's garbage and recycling routes will be run on Tuesday, September 6.
  • Tuesday's garbage and recycling routes will be run on Wednesday, September 7.

2nd Reading on Rezoning of Cardinal Newman property delayed again

The second reading of the ordinance for the proposed rezoning of the Cardinal Newman High School property has again been deferred-- this time to a special city council meeting to be held at 5:15 PM on May 18, 2016. Prevously scheduled for the May 10, 2016 City Council Meeting, action by Forest Acres is again delayed as the city continues to await information on certain proposed traffic improvements in the Forest Drive corridor. The desired information is expected to be available to the city by May 18.

If You See Ribbons Around Trees in City Parks....

A certified arborist has inspected the condition of trees in the city's parks and has marked a number of them with ribbons to denote which ones need trimming. Please do not become alarmed by the presence of the ribbons.  THEY DO NOT MEAN THE TREES ARE COMING DOWN!  However, so of them require trimming so as not to present a hazard to park visitors.  If you have any questions about what's going on with the trees, please call City Hall.
