Forest Acres to Roll Out 95-Gallon Recycle Carts for All Residents

Forest Acres City Council is excited to announce a major upgrade to the City’s Recycling Program. Starting May 16, 2019, residents will begin receiving new recycling roll carts and the City will begin servicing the new carts on June 3, 2019. Information on the schedule for pick up will be provided on every cart. The 95-gallon roll carts will be very similar to the carts currently used for household garbage but will be uniquely marked for recycling. Replacing the older 18-gallon bins has been a goal of City Council for the past 3 years, but the cost of ordering 5,000 roll carts at one time has limited the City’s progress. Thanks to the work of Representative Kirkman Finley, Representative Beth Bernstein, and Senator Mia McLeod, the City was able to secure grant funding through the state to make this project possible.

The benefits of this initiative include:

  • Cost Savings Through Increased Route Efficiencies
  • Increased Recovery Due to Greater Participation in the Recycling Program
  • Cost Savings Related to Personnel
  • Elimination of Excess Waste Going to Landfills

Many citizens have expressed their desire for increased capacity in their recycling receptacles. The City believes the convenience of the new roll carts will encourage more people to recycle.

Mayor Frank Brunson stated, “This is an exciting time for the City of Forest Acres. We are constantly searching for ways to be responsive to the public and to ensure our services run as efficiently and effectively as possible. We are incredibly grateful to our state representatives and especially Senator Mia McLeod for assisting the City in securing the critical funding for this project.”
