FAPD officer receives top honors at Criminal Justice Academy

Forest Acres Police Officer Alex C. Adkins was  recently awarded the coveted J. P. Strom Award for having the highest academic average in his class at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. 

Officer Adkins graduated on March 28, 2014 after completing 12 weeks of police training. He was a student in Basic Law Enforcement Class 613.

A native South Carolinian, Officer Adkins graduated in 2012 from the University of South Carolina with a BSN degree. He began work at the Forest Acres Police Department in August 2013.

Free shorescaping workshop and demonstration

Clemson Extension and Sumter Stormwater Solutions will be hosting a free shorescaping workshop and demonstration on April 29th at the Alice Boyle Garden Center. Please join us to learn how to properly “shorescape” the area around your pond or lake. A shorescape is a landscaped shoreline that uses attractive plants to protect and beautify the waterfront. A well designed shorescape uses native plants to provide a functional solution to problems such as shoreline erosion, poor water quality, invasive weeds, and wildlife management.

Fallen officer honored 40 years after death

On February 21, the City of Forest Acres and the South Carolina Department of Transportation renamed a portion of Forest Drive "Officer Richey O'Brian Finch Memorial Way" in honor of the sacrifice Officer Finch made in the line of duty.

Officer Finch was murdered during a traffic stop on Forest Drive the night of February 21, 1974. Finch, only 25 at the time of his death, is the only Forest Acres police officer to have ever been killed in the line of duty.

Over 100 friends, relatives and admirers came to witness the sign's unveiling and pay tribute to Officer Finch.
