Hurricane Irma- Updated September 10, 2017

Hurricane Irma is still projected to bring tropical storm force winds and heavy rains to the midlands. Based on these projections, City of Forest Acres administrative offices will be closed Monday, Septemeber 11.   The city intends to provide sanitation services Monday and Tuesday, but that will depend upon prevailing weather conditions at the time. 

The following are sources of helpful information:

  • SCEMD:  The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has issued a helpful guide in preparing for hurricanes in South Carolina.  Also see up-to-date information on Hurricane Irma on their home page or call their public information phone system - 1-866-246-0133.
  • SCDOT:  Current information on travel and coastal evacuation routes can be found on the Hurricane Irma resource page on the South Carolina Department of Transportation website.
  • SCE&G:  Report power outages by telephone to 1-888-333-4465 or register your account ahead of the storm and report by text or through the website.  Also, follow South Carolina Electric & Gas's social media channels for breaking news, outage reports, restoration updates and other important news:
  • Richland County:  See the county's emergency preparedness page for more helpful resources including information on how to sign up to receive emergency notifications by text through the County's Citizen Alert System.  Richland County is also opening a storm shelter at Dent Middle School.
